Robertson: Olympics Minister must produce a transparent budget

Hugh Robertson has commented on the Culture Select Committee's report on the Olympics.

“This report, from a Labour dominated committee, confirms what we have been saying for months - namely that the Government has incompetently managed the budget by failing to rationalise the position on VAT and contingency, both of which should have been settled at the time of the bid.

“Furthermore, I suspect that there is further bad news to come on security costs, building cost inflation and the level of public sector contribution needed to generate the private sector development of the athlete’s village.

“Meanwhile the Government has still not itemised the extra £400m spent on The Olympic Delivery Partner. There is also justifiable concern that any extra hit to the lottery will penalise the very projects, such as community sport, that were supposed to benefit from London 2012.

“The Olympics Minister needs to bring forward an honest and transparent budget as a matter of urgency.”
