Hugh Robertson has commented on the National Audit Office report into the progress of the 2012 Olympics.
“This is yet another independent report, following close on the heels of the Labour dominated DCMS Select Committee's Report, specifically criticising the Government's handling of the Olympic budget.
“It is entirely the Government’s fault that the bid budget was so incompetently drawn up and it is their mismanagement of the inevitable aftermath that is doing so much damage to the Olympic process.
Notes
The NAO report has concluded that a major risk to the successful delivery of the Games is the lack of a final agreed budget. The report suggests that this will inevitably have a detrimental impact on the Olympic programme if it is allowed to continue.
Last week’s DCMS select committee report criticised the Government over its failure to include a VAT bill of up to £1billion in its initial estimate of the cost of hosting the 2012 Games. It also urged ministers to "get a grip" and to stop diverting funds from lottery money meant for good causes.
