Hugh Robertson has secured an undertaking from his opposite number, Rt. Hon Richard Caborn, the Minister for Sport, to investigate a huge increase in licensing fees that has affected Headcorn Football Club. The exchange came at DCMS Question Time in The House of Commons and was followed up by a letter from the MP.

Hugh said:- “Headcorn Football Club contacted me over a problem that is affecting countless small Sports Clubs on the back of the Licensing Act. Their Licensing fee has risen from £25 every five years, under the system in place when the Conservative Government was in power, to £900 for the same period today – a staggering increase of 3,600%.

This money could otherwise be spent on youth development and is no way to encourage people to take up sport in the run up to the 2012 Olympics.
I am, therefore, delighted that my opposite number has agreed to look into this personally.”
