Hugh Robertson, the MP for Mid Kent, has today pledged his support to the 'Keep Our Trains' campaign objecting to the loss of the fast service from Maidstone to Cannon Street.
He joined forces with neighbours Rt Hon Ann Widdecombe MP and Rt Hon Sir John Stanley MP at a meeting with the rail minister – Chris Pond.
Hugh Robertson said, “Constituents of mine, who live to the east of Maidstone and thus furthest away from London, will be worst affected by the loss of this service. It is crucial for people working in the city trying to get home in time to collect children or simply enjoy a reasonable standard of life.
The rail service along the East Maidstone line is already very poor with the result that many people drive considerable distances to use the North Kent or Tonbridge line. These proposed changes will only make that situation much worse and I will be doing everything possible to save the service.”
