Hugh Robertson calls for total transparency over MP's expenses

Hugh Robertson, the MP for Faversham and Mid Kent, has urged his Parliamentary colleagues to vote for complete disclosure of all Parliamentary allowances. A vote on the issue is due this Thursday.

During the last financial year, Hugh Robertson’s expenses were in the lowest 10% amongst MP’s. He also believes that the total number of MP’s should be reduced and the allowance system dramatically reformed.

Hugh Robertson said, “All our allowances are funded from public money so we should all be held fully accountable. Ever since I became an MP in 2001, I have always kept all my receipts in a file in the Constituency Office where they are open to inspection by any constituent.

I am told that the system now costs more to police than the total amount of allowances paid – so reform and simplification of the system is long overdue. However, a vital first step is to ensure that everything is completely transparent.”
