Hugh Robertson, the MP for Faversham and Mid Kent, was prevented by the snow from attending the KIG public meeting last night.
The MP, and former soldier, had Parliamentary permission to leave Westminster for the evening and had pre-positioned his car in a Maidstone car park in order to travel down by train and join the meeting.
However, the cancellation of all rail services and the fact that his car was stranded in Maidstone left him with no means to reach Invicta Grammer School.
Hugh said, “I am desperately sorry that the impossible weather conditions meant that I was unable to attend the KIG meeting last night. I was slipped from Parliament for the night and had intended to catch the train to Maidstone for the meeting where I had left my car. However, the cancellation of all train services left me stranded in London with no car.
However, many congratulations to everyone who made it to the meeting. In my view, the planning arguments for KIG are unconvincing so force of public opinion will be extremely important. Please encourage everyone to write in to Maidstone Borough Council by the end of this week and remain ready to respond in huge numbers to all future consultations.”
