Hugh Robertson welcomes new high speed trains but warns about fare levels

Hugh Robertson comments in advance of the start of the new high speed train service next week.

In advance of the start of the new high speed train service next week, Hugh Robertson, the MP for Faversham and Mid Kent, said, “The key priority for Faversham's existing rail users is to preserve the existing classic service. The new high speed trains will be an exciting addition to that service and should encourage more people to visit and spend money in the town.

However, this will only happen if the fare structure is correct. People will not use the service in any quantity if they have to pay a 15% surcharge for a relatively minor decrease in journey times.”
