Hugh Robertson, the MP for Faversham and Mid Kent, has today joined Roger Gale, the MP for Thanet North and Julian Brazier, the MP for Canterbury, in a concerted effort to force changes to the rail services affecting the North Kent line.
Hugh has received a considerable number of complaints from constituents by email, post and in person ever since the timetable alterations caused by the introduction of the High Speed line.
Hugh raised three particular issues:-
i) The deterioration to the ‘classic’ rail service to Cannon Street and Victoria.
ii) The noise caused by the trains’ fans parking overnight on sidings in Faversham.
iii) The fare structure for the new high speed service.
Hugh Robertson said, “It was always likely that the introduction of the new high speed line would cause some problems. However, the strength of public outrage shows that the Department of Transport has got the timetable wrong.
I want to see that timetable rebalanced to favour users of the existing classic service so that my constituents can have better journeys to Victoria and Cannon Street. I also want a fundamental review of the fare structure for the new high speed trains to incentivise users.
Finally, it is vital that a solution is found to the question of overnight noise from trains parked in Faversham.”
