The week of 6th June

Schoolboy dreams and getting older. The week of 6 June took me back to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and ended with the Queen's Birthday Parade.

I returned to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst to talk about the leadership challenges of London 2012 before being questioned by the Foreign Press Association on the Olympics. On Tuesday I helped christen the new Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity, which brings together two existing bodies, before helping launch the London 2012 torch on Wednesday. Thursday was spent, in part, thanking all our Nations and Regions programmers for their work before I fulfilled the dream of a lifetime by turning out for Parliament against the MCC at Lords.

Needless to say, on the day the government announced a drought order, it was rained off after 11 overs but we dodged the rain to watch my old regiment, just back from Afghanistan, perform at The Queen’s Birthday Parade the next day. They were immaculate but it did make me feel very old reflecting that it is 18 years since I appeared on the parade myself.
