Hugh backs Anna's campaign

MAIDSTONE SCHOOLGIRL'S DREAM COMES TRUE

A Maidstone schoolgirl’s dream came true when her citizenship coursework ended up in the Houses of Parliament. Anna Peschek of Platts Heath, who is a pupil at Invicta Grammar School, had the petition she had drawn up as part of her coursework presented in Parliament by her local MP – Hugh Robertson.

The petition, which Anna had organised, was signed by 92 villagers from Platts Heath. They were concerned about the speed of traffic through the village – most particularly on the Lenham to Headcorn road.

Anna organised the petition as part of her GCSE Citizenship coursework at Invicta Grammar School. Having collected the signatures, she then went to see Hugh at one of his regular Friday surgeries to enlist his help.

Hugh said: “I was absolutely delighted to help Anna by presenting her petition in Parliament. I have been a constant campaigner for rural services and the quality of life in rural areas so this is something which I support unreservedly.

“Right the way across the southern half of my constituency from Platts Heath to Chartway Street, Leeds/Langley, Willington Street, Caring Lane and the A249 – to name but a few – constituents are complaining about the speed and volume of traffic. Government plans to build 120,000 extra homes will make a bad situation even worse.

“I wholeheartedly congratulate Anna on her excellent initiative and wish her all the very best of luck with her other GCSEs.”
