Hugh stands up for Hollingbourne

MP FIGHTS PROPOSED WASTE PLANT AT HOLLINGBOURNE

At a public meeting in Hollingbourne Village Hall, the MP for the area, Hugh Robertson, stated his total opposition to the proposed green waste recycling plant at Greenway, near Hollingbourne. The meeting was chaired by the KCC Planning Committee who will consider the application.

Hugh Robertson, who was backed by KCC Leader Sir Sandy Bruce-Lockhart, local County Councillor Paul Carter and Borough Councillor Daphne Parvin, said that the application should be refused due to the impact on the landscape, the smell, the vehicle movements and the need to conserve Kent’s countryside. A new plant would have a huge detrimental effect not only on Hollingbourne but also on Harrietsham, Lenham, Leeds, Broomfield and Leeds Castle.

Hugh said: “I have two main reasons for opposing this application.

“Firstly, Hollingbourne has already suffered enough in recent years as a result of infrastructure developments. Both the M20 and the CTRL have scarred the landscape and the environment and enough is now enough.

“Secondly, Kent thrives on its reputation as the Garden of England. However, our countryside is currently under threat as never before. Government house building plans, infrastructure developments and the crisis in agriculture have all contributed to the pressure on our countryside.

“We must fight to preserve everything we have left before it is too late.”
