Hugh continues FIGHT for K&C

MP ATTENDS CHEK CELEBRATION DINNER

Hugh Robertson last night attended the CHEK Committee Celebration Dinner at Canterbury Golf Club. The MP has been closely involved in the campaign to save the Kent and Canterbury Hospital, in which he was born.

After the dinner, the Chairman of CHEK, David Shortt, made a speech outlining the progress the campaign had made and the challenges that face it in the future. He was followed by Julian Brazier MP, the Mayor of Canterbury and Dr Richard Collins. All of whom spoke about the contribution CHEK had made to saving the hospital and about some future areas of concern.

Hugh said: “I extend my wholehearted congratulations to everybody involved with CHEK. Not only the committee, but also all those of my constituents who have supported the campaign either by going on marches or contributing financially. Faversham can be very proud of the part it played and I was delighted to attend the dinner on behalf of the town and the surrounding villages.

“In many ways I have always strongly felt that Faversham and the surrounding area was the part of Kent that would suffer most severely if the hospital was to be downgraded.

“If you had told me when I was elected that this much could be achieved, in all honesty, I would not have believed it. It is the result of a huge amount of hard work by all concerned.

“There are still a number of areas of concern, most notably over cancer treatment. But we do now have a basis from which we can all move forward in a constructive way.”
