HUGH ROBERTSON LAUNCHES KENT OLYMPIC WEEK AT SWADELANDS
Hugh Robertson, the MP for Faversham and Mid Kent and Shadow Sports Minister, yesterday helped launch Kent’s Olympic week at Swadelands School in Lenham. As Shadow Sports Minister, Hugh Robertson is closely involved with the London 2012 bid and will be in Singapore on 6 July when the votes are cast.
The celebrations at Swadelands started with an Olympic Parade by the school on the sports field and continued with a torch bearing relay and swearing of the Olympic Oath. Hugh then opened the school’s new Centre for Training and Excellence.
Hugh said: “This was a marvellous opportunity to celebrate the achievements of Swadelands School as a Specialist Sports College and to promote Kent’s Olympic credentials.
“Kent will benefit enormously if London wins the 2012 bid. We are an ideal base for training camps, local businesses will get involved in the games and many young people from across the county will be able to help with the games as volunteers.
“The event at Swadelands School was an excellent start to a very exciting week.”
