Hugh wins investigation

PARLIAMENTARY OMBUDSMAN TO INVESTIGATE COLLAPSE OF ALBERT FISHER PENSION SCHEME

The Parliamentary Ombudsman has written to Hugh Robertson to say that she will investigate the collapse of the Albert Fisher Pension Scheme – opening the door to compensation for many of its members who live in the Faversham and Canterbury area. Hugh had particularly asked her to look into issues surrounding Albert Fisher after a number of cases were brought to his attention by Faversham’s County Councillor – Tom Gates, who took the MP to visit a number of those affected.

The Ombudsman’s investigation will encompass all occupational pension schemes that have collapsed and will look at the actions of The Treasury, the DWP, the Occupational Pensions Regulatory Authority and the National Insurance Contributions Office in four key areas. Any finding of maladministration would open the door to compensation. A copy of the complaints to be investigated is attached to this release.

Hugh said: “I am absolutely delighted that we have taken another step forward on behalf of the Albert Fisher Pensioners. The Ombudsman’s investigation will clearly take some time. However, the fact that she is prepared to investigate government maladministration between 1998 and 2003 in four separate areas is cause for optimism.

“I will keep constituents informed as matters progress.”
