Hugh Robertson has written to the Maidstone Joint Transportation Board to urge them to recommend acceptance of a new roundabout on the A249 at the top of Detling Hill.
The roundabout is one of two options being considered with the alternative being a roundabout at Bimbury Lane next to the Detling Aerodrome Site.
Hugh’s intervention comes both as the local MP and as part of the A249 Action Group. The MP was one of the founder members of the group which was set up in 2002 to co-ordinate local concerns about the A249. Membership comprises all the local parish councils and elected representatives.
Hugh said: “A The A249 Action Group was formed to meet precisely this purpose. There is unanimous support in the group, and always has been, for a new roundabout closer to the top of Detling Hill for safety reasons and to prevent further development of the Aerodrome site – which is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
“Given that local support for this option is so strong, I hope that the Transportation Board will reject the al\ternative and accept option 1.”
