Hugh comments on the budget and design of the Aquatics Centre.
Responding to information released under the Freedom of Information Act which shows that the committee that approved the designs for the Olympic Aquatic Centre were aware of the risk of cost overruns, Shadow Olympics Minister Hugh Robertson said:
“It is now clear that the Government was aware back in 2005 that there would be cost overruns and that there would be problems converting the Aquatic Centre to legacy use. Given that the cost has risen from £100 million, at bid book prices, to over £300 million today, it is impossible not to conclude that the money would have been better spent on community swimming pools rather than unnecessarily over ornate design.”
