Hugh Robertson, the MP for Faversham and Mid Kent, will visit The Railway Hotel in Faversham this Friday, 18th July, in order to support ‘Proud of Pubs’ week. He will meet with Chris Maclean, the Landlord, and other Publicans to discuss issues affecting the pub trade.
The week is part of a campaign by the pub trade to raise awareness of the crisis currently affecting the industry. Rising wholesale beer prices, competition from supermarkets, the fallout from the smoking ban and the general economic malaise have all led to closures.
Hugh said, “The pub is a traditional part of a Kentish life but has never been more threatened. As someone who represents a brewery town, I want to do everything possible to support the pub trade and fight for their survival.”
