MP WRITES TO MINISTER OVER RAILWAY CUTS
Hugh Robertson has today written directly to the Secretary of State about the Strategic Rail Authority’s planned cuts to services in Kent. The MP is affected twice with planned cuts to the service to Faversham and Selling in the north of his constituency and Hollingbourne, Harrietsham and Lenham in the centre of his constituency.
Hugh has already had a personal meeting with the SRA over Faversham and Selling and questioned the Prime Minister in the House on the subject. He has received a large number of letters on this issue from constituents angered by the proposals. Given the importance of the subject locally, he has also responded to the consultation personally.
ugh said: “At a time when the government is planning to impose up to 120,000 extra houses in Kent, it makes no sense to cut public transport. Kent is already far too congested.
“At my meeting with the SRA, they made it perfectly clear that the consultation process was exactly that and that they were prepared to alter their proposals in light of the response.
“I am extremely grateful to everyone who has responded directly to the SRA and am sure that this campaign will force them to restore, and hopefully enhance, rail services.”
