Vote on Palestinian statehood

Hugh Robertson has co-sponsored a cross party amendment, subject to selection by The Speaker, that demands the recognition of the state of Israel alongside the state of Palestine as a contribution to securing a negotiated two state solution.

He said:
“I firmly believe that Palestinians have a right to statehood, like other nations, and, on my visits to The West Bank as an FCO Minister, I saw ample evidence that they are ready for that step. However, to do so unilaterally at this time, would not be in either their long term interests or the wider interests of the region.

“I hope that the International Community will re-engage in the process, following the disappointment of the Kerry Peace Plan, and set out a deliverable timetable, that addresses Israel’s security concerns, to bring this about.”
