HUGH ROBERTSON SECURES NOISE REDUCING RESURFACING OF M2 AT FAVERSHAM
After a sustained four year campaign by Hugh Robertson, the Highways Agency has agreed to resurface the M2 between Sittingbourne and Faversham with noise reducing material by the autumn of 2005.
Hugh said: This is excellent news. Noise pollution from the motorway has blighted many of my constituents lives – not only in Doddington, Erriotswood, Kingsdown and Lynsted but also in Newnham, Painters Forstal, Ospringe and Faversham and this announcement will have a dramatic impact on their quality of life – most notably on clear summer evenings.”
Hugh has persistently tabled questions to Ministers and intervened directly with the Highways Agency since he was first elected. The breakthrough came as a result of a petition gathered by Mrs Sheila Buttle, a resident of Kingsdown, who collected 275 signatures from Doddington, Erriotswood, Kingsdown and Lynsted.
Hugh undertook to present the petition formally to Parliament. And, at last, during the negotiations with the Department of Transport, Hugh was advised to table another Parliamentary Question. The answer confirmed the intention to resurface the motorway by autumn 2005.
“I could not be more delighted that at long last my campaign has paid off,” said Hugh.
