Shadow Sports Minister

Hugh Robertson Promoted To Shadow Sports Minister

Michael Howard announced today, following Lord Moynihan’s decision to stand aside for business reasons, that Hugh would take over responsibility for all Conservative Sports Policy and become Shadow Minister for Sport. He has spent the last six months as Conservative Sports Spokesman in the Commons working with Colin Moynihan.

Hugh is an active sportsman himself. He is a particularly keen cricketer who captained RMA Sandhurst, is a playing member of MCC and topped The Lords and Commons batting averages for the 2004 season. He also played hockey for his university and Sandhurst, rugby for his regiment and completed the long equitation course at Melton Mowbray whilst in the army. He is a member of Chelsea FC.

Hugh said: “It is clearly a huge shame that Colin Moynihan has felt the need to stand aside but I am delighted to have taken responsibility for all aspects of Conservative Sports Policy.

“We have an extremely exciting programme to put before the electorate with £1.1 bn of extra funding for sport and I am confident of victory”
