.Robertson: Medal hopes could come to nothing unless Government finds £100m for elite athletes

Hugh emphasises the importance of finding the missing elite funding

Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe has said that "it is vital" that Team GB reaches the target of 41 medals from the Beijing Olympics. Shadow Sports Minister, Hugh Robertson commented:

“All the talk about Olympic medal table targets will come to nothing unless the government finds the £100m promised to elite sport in the March 2006 Budget but not yet delivered. Unless it is found quickly, athlete support programmes will have to be cut with potentially disastrous consequences for our athletes and the UK's hopes of rising to fourth in the medal table in London 2012.”
