Hugh Robertson takes a robust stance over drugs.
Commenting on the news that Dwain Chambers has bee allowed to compete for a place at the World Indoor Championships despite the fact that he served a two-year drugs ban and hasn’t had a drugs test since 2006, Shadow Sports Minister, Hugh Robertson said:
“The Dwain Chambers case raises some fundamental questions about the integrity of British Sport. Whatever your views of the merits of his particular circumstances, it must be wrong that the law courts rather than the sport national governing body decides who competes for his, or her, country.
I entirely support UK Athletics' robust stance over drugs. Drug taking is the single biggest threat across all Olympic sports and it is vital that those who seek unfair advantage by illegal methods are barred from further competition.”
