MP WELCOMES COMMITMENT TO RESURFACE M20 JCT 8-9
Hugh Robertson has today welcomed the Department of Transport's commitment to resurface the M20, junctions 8-9, over the next four years. The commitment came in a Parliamentary Written Statement to the House on Wednesday 2 April.
Hugh said: "I am absolutely delighted. I have been badgering the Secretary of State about this ever since I was elected to Parliament in 2001 and I am very pleased that we now have a firm commitment and a specific timescale. This is in line with his previous assurances to me in both letters and Parliamentary answers.
"I have been meeting with a group of Parish Chairmen from Hollingbourne, Harrietsham, Lenham and Boxley on a regular basis to campaign on this exact issue and I am delighted that it is, at last, coming to fruition.
"It is very good news for all the villages between those junctions. I now want to continue to keep the pressure on the Secretary of State to ensure that the M20 Jct 8-9 is one of the first to be done and then see what can be done for junctions 6-8"
