The news that two of the new high speed trains will stop at Faversham each hour is a very exciting development for the town.
Hugh Robertson, the MP for Faversham, has described the news that two of the new high speed trains will stop at Faversham each hour as a very exciting development for the town – although it is only half the battle won. The news was given to the MP by SouthEastern, the train operating company, who have been negotiating with the Department of Transport over the new rail timetable.
The initial plan was for the regular high speed train service to terminate at Sittingbourne with only a more limited service coming on to Faversham. Today’s news means that the full service will now come to the town. It will open up the East End of London and the Docklands, through Ebbsfleet, and provide a through service to the north of England for the first time.
Reacting to the news, Hugh said, “I am delighted that the new high speed service will stop at Faversham twice an hour and believe that it will significantly widen the range of opportunities open to train travellers in the town.
The next battle is to maintain the full existing service to Victoria and Cannon Street, particularly during peak times, as this is vital to Faversham’s existing commuters. I am delighted to say that SouthEastern is extremely receptive to this argument and I am hopeful of a successful outcome with the Department of Transport.”
