MP Criticises decision to sell London Array shareholding

Hugh Robertson today criticised Shell's decision to sell their shareholding.

Hugh Robertson, the MP for Faversham and Mid Kent, today criticised the decision by Shell to sell their shareholding in the London Array project. The MP has always been opposed to the scheme which requires the construction of a 45ft high new substation in the middle of the North Kent marshes at Cleve Hill in his constituency.

Hugh Robertson said, “I am disappointed by Shell’s decision to sell their shareholding in London Array. It is clear that they have used their industrial muscle to obtain planning permission in order to make a profit. However, the local community, to whom they made a number of commitments, are now left wondering whether those commitments will be honoured.

It is worth remembering that everyone locally including Graveney Parish Council, Faversham Town Council, Swale Borough Council and myself, as the local Member of Parliament, were all opposed to the scheme. The only support came from the government and Friends of the Earth. That support has helped Shell make a profit whilst all those who enjoy the beauty of the Kent Marshes are left with a construction site and the local villagers are left wondering if their community enhancements will be delivered”.
