Hugh supports the Sustainable Communities Bill

Hugh Robertson has announced that he will support the Sustainable Communities Bill

The bill was brought to Parliament on Friday 19th January by fellow Kent MP Greg Clark. It requires government to draw up and implement an action plan to promote local services and economic activity, thus offering a lifeline to countless small or rural communities.

It also contains measures to protect the environment and promote greater political involvement. It would give small communities more influence thus helping, in particular, parish councils.

Hugh said, “I have always been an ardent supporter of the principal of devolving as much power as possible away from central government towards local communities. There has been far too much centralisation in recent years with the result that local communities feel powerless to halt central government dictats and this Bill would be a start in addressing this problem.”
