Hugh Robertson urges people to support service charities

Hugh Robertson, the MP for Faversham and Mid Kent, has today issued a call for people to support service charities. The call comes following a debate secured by the MP over the compensation payable to LCpl Compton, a young serviceman horribly injured in Afghanistan, and the MP’s attendance at the Faversham SSAFA charity fundraiser on Saturday at Belmont.

Hugh Robertson said, “One of the consequences of fighting two prolonged conflicts in Afghanistan or Iraq is that, sadly, we are going to have a considerable number of injured servicemen and women who will need care for some time to come. As we discussed in the Parliamentary debate, it is vital that the government plays its part in full.

However, there will always be a need for the voluntary and charitable sector to work in support and alongside state provision. The work done by organisations such as SSAFA, the RBL and the service and regimental charities is absolutely vital in this regard and I urge everyone to give them their support.”
