Mid Kent MP Hugh Robertson has urged objectors to the potential new Rail Freight Interchange at Junction 8 to stay vigilant, after his office has been inundated with messages from constituents opposed to the development.

Hugh said “Everybody who has contacted my office shares my total opposition to the proposed development. It is a completely inappropriate site for such a scheme and would do immeasurable damage to both the immediate area and the economic development of the rest of Maidstone.

However, it is vital that people remember that this is currently just a proposal. The key thing is to write in to Maidstone Borough Council as soon as a formal planning application is lodged. In a sense, we are currently just shadow boxing!"
