A communications tower in Kent, that is a relic of the cold war and which has become unsafe, is to be properly repaired and lit, after local MP Hugh Robertson intervened with the Ministry of Defence.
The metal tower in Dunkirk, Kent was built during the cold war as part of a network of communications across Europe to assist visiting American forces in their operations.
But since then, it has been neglected and the local parish council contacted the MP alleging it had become unsafe.
As a result, Hugh Robertson took the matter up with The Secretary of State for Defence, which he then followed up on a number of occasions. He eventually, received a response confirming both that the tower would be maintained and that it will now be properly lit.
Hugh Robertson said, “I am delighted that The MOD has confirmed that the tower will now be properly maintained. It was a matter of justifiable local concern that the tower had become unsafe and I am extremely pleased that matters will now improve.”
