Hugh Robertson awarded Distinguished Fellowship for work as Olympics Minister at London 2012

Hugh Robertson, the Member of Parliament for Faversham and Mid Kent, has been awarded a Distinguished Fellowship by Reading University for his work as Olympics Minister at London 2012. The award was made by The Chancellor at the annual university court held this morning.

Hugh completed his Chartered Surveying qualification at the University's College of Estate Management in 1985. The award was made to recognise his role in overseeing the construction, operations and legacy of London's Olympic and Paralympic Games and, in particular, the fact that they were delivered ahead of time and approximately £500 million under budget. He was also Minister of Sport during a period of unprecedented sporting success and at a time when Britain assembled the greatest ever series of major international sports events. Hugh was recognised alongside Sir John Armitt who chaired the Olympic Delivery Authority and with whom Hugh worked closely.

Hugh said,
“It was a great honour to receive this award. Without a basic knowledge of property skills, it would have been much more difficult to oversee London 2012 and I am very grateful to Reading for their kindness in granting this Distinguished Fellowship.”
