Hugh Robertson attends the Royal British Legion Faversham 85th Anniversary

Hugh Robertson hopes Royal British Legion Faversham's 85th Anniversary will encourage more young people to join the Services.

Hugh Robertson, the MP for Faversham, attended the Faversham Branch of The Royal British Legion’s 85th Anniversary service and parade on Sunday afternoon. After the service, he said that he hoped that the occasion would encourage more young people to join The Armed Services.

Hugh Robertson said, “I congratulated the Faversham Branch of The Royal British Legion on their 85th Birthday and, more importantly, for all the great work that they do for the ex members of The Armed Forces in, and around, Faversham. Listening to the service, it was striking how the same values that led to the formation of the Faversham branch 85 years ago, in the aftermath of the First World War, are still relevant today.

During the address, the vicar spoke very movingly of his son who is currently serving in Afghanistan. Whether you serve for a short time, or longer, the services provides a fantastic career opportunity for many young people and the values it instils are incredibly important in later life.”
