HUGH ROBERTSON PROMOTED TO SHADOW SPORTS MINISTER IN THE COMMONS
Hugh Robertson has today been promoted in Michael Howard’s Conservative reshuffle to become Shadow Minister for Sport. The post is part of The Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
Hugh is a keen cricketer, a playing member of MCC and captained the cricket side at school, university and RMA Sandhurst. He also plays hockey, rugby, skis, supports Chelsea FC and passed the long riding course whilst in the army.
His main tasks in his new job will be to promote sports individually and collectively, encourage sport in schools and support the London Olympic 2012 bid. He will also be responsible for any sports issues that come through the Commons.
Hugh Robertson said: “This is a terrific opportunity and I could not be more thrilled. My top priority will be to encourage as many young people as possible to get involved in sport and to do everything I can to showcase British Sport.
“Sport in the UK is on a huge high at the moment and it is an incredibly exciting time to get involved.”
