HUGH ROBERTSON WELCOMES STUDY INTO NEW OLYMPIC SIZE SWIMMING POOL FOR EAST KENT
Hugh Robertson, the MP for Faversham and Conservative Sports Minister, has welcomed KCC’s announcement of a study into the viability of a new 50 metre Olympic size swimming pool at the University of Kent and Canterbury. Hugh had been involved in lobbying Kent County Council as Shadow Sports Minister in favour of the project.
Hugh said: “This is the first step towards bringing an Olympic size swimming pool to East Kent. It is a project that enjoys the support of KCC, the University and all the MPs in the East Kent area.
“It will be a terrific additional facility for Faversham and for everybody across the northern part of my constituency. You cannot get selected to represent the UK unless you train in a 50 metre pool so it is a fantastic boost for both performance and recreational swimmers. I have been lobbying for such a facility for some time now and most particularly since I saw the new English Institute for Sport facility at Loughborough.
“It will also hugely enhance Kent’s prospects of hosting squads in advance of the 2012 Olympics.”
