A House of Lords defeat for the Government, that may lead to compensation for pensioners from Albert Fisher and ASW Sheerness, who have lost their pensions, has been warmly welcomed by Faversham and Mid Kent MP Hugh Robertson.
The House of Lords voted for a Lifeboat Fund proposed by The Conservative Party and backed by The Liberal Democrats that had earlier been defeated in The Commons. As a result, the issue will now have to return to the Commons for further consideration.
The Lifeboat Fund would immediately pay out 90% of pensions to all those who had lost out as a result of a parent company going into receivership. But, the Labour Party used its in built majority to vote down the proposal.
Hugh Robertson said, “The Lords decision is excellent news for all those that have lost their pensions. I very much hope that Gordon Brown, in the first few weeks of his Premiership, will back these proposals so that everyone can benefit from the proposed compensation.”
