KENT MP DEBATES FUTURE OF FRUIT INDUSTRY
Hugh Robertson secured a Parliamentary debate on fruit farming with the agriculture minister, Elliot Morley.
Hugh is Secretary to the All Party Parliamentary Fruit Industry Group and represents one of the few constituencies where fruit farming predominates.
During the debate, Hugh rose the following issues:
1. The loss of over 10% of the National Orchard in the past five years.
2. The need to retain an Agricultural Wages Board following the introduction of the national minimum wage.
3. The future of the world famous horticultural research facility at HRI East Malling.
