DOUBLE CELEBRATIONS

Hugh re-selected to fight Faversham and Mid Kent at the next General Election

July was a cause for double celebration for Hugh Robertson. He has been promoted as a Conservative Whip and reselected to represent the Conservative Party in his constituency at the next General Election.

Hugh was promoted to the Conservative Whips' Office last year. He initially shadowed the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. During the recent reshuffle he was promoted inside the Whips Department and now has responsibility for shadowing the Foreign Office and the Ministry of Defence. If all goes well, it is normally expected that front benchers will serve in the Oppositions Whips Office for two years.

At the end of the week he was also reselected to fight the Faversham constituency for a second term.

Hugh Robertson said: "I did actually put some thought into the whole question of reselection as being an MP is both hard work and tough on family life.

"One of the most rewarding aspects of being an MP is the opportunity to represent your own home area. Having been born, educated and brought up in Kent, it is something I feel very strongly.

"As I have done during in my first term, I want to play my part in shaping the future of the Kent and Canterbury Hospital, defeating government plans to concrete over Kent and opposing plans for a new airport at Cliffe.

"There is still an enormous amount to do both in the constituency and nationally. I was, therefore, absolutely delighted that my constituency executive allowed me to represent them once again at the next General Election.

"The next General Election will be crucial for Kent."
