Conservatives deeply concerned about Olympic Ministers budget admission

Shadow Olympic Minister, Hugh Robertson, is staggered that The Olympic Board does not have access to up to date figures for The Olympic budget.

Commenting on the news that the Olympic Minister has admitted that The Olympic Board does not have the basic financial details necessary to scrutinise the project’s budget, Hugh Robertson, Shadow Olympic Minister said:

“The Minister's admission at DCMS Questions yesterday that The Olympic Board, the body responsible for overseeing all aspects of London 2012, does not have access to up to date figures for The Olympic budget is staggering. Her further admission, clearly laid out in Hansard, that the detailed work on the budget was not complete is a clear sign that government does not currently know the exact state of the budget - which is another extraordinary admission only six months after the same Minister had to admit a tripling of the original budget.

“As an absolute minimum, the Olympic Board needs an up to date budget, a monthly cash-flow and an itemisation of the contingency allocated each time it meets. Without this, there is no effective scrutiny and the public can have no confidence that the budget will not spiral.”
